Skills
Adaptability
My various trips abroad instilled the value of adaptability in me. Travel and studying abroad present numerous unforeseen challenges that need to be overcome. While abroad, I quickly learned how to be flexible, independent, and spontaneous. I also played competitive soccer for years. Being on different teams with different coaches and players, taught me how to work with all types of personalities, another important component of adaptability.
Leadership
Over the years, I've held various leadership roles. From serving as Captain of my high school soccer team, Vice President of the Italian Student Association, and Co-Vice President of Outreach of the Study Abroad Peer Advisors, I learned how to properly manage and lead a group of peers in academic, social, professional, and sport settings. To me, being a leader means knowing when to step up and give direction but also knowing when to take a step back and observe and listen the thoughts and feelings of my peers. My leadership experience helped me find a balance between these two leadership styles.
Cross- Cultural Communication
Knowing how to listen, understand, and communicate with people from different cultures is an important skill in any sector. Because of my international coursework and experiences, I developed strong cross-cultural communication skills. I am a very empathetic person sensitive to the emotions, beliefs, and perspectives of others. I also hope to embark on an international career where cross-cultural-communication is imperative. Here I am pictured with my Italian co-workers from my internship at the Hotel Belvue Syrene.
Critical Thinker
Many argue that the Liberal Arts and Humanities are not as important or useful as STEM, I heavily disagree. My Liberal Arts coursework challenged me to think critically, creatively, and strategically. I learned how to ask questions, challenge the unknown, explore various perspectives, and articulate my thoughts. Liberal Arts also helped me gain soft skills that STEM students lack. I am a strong communicator and curious learner.
